The Emperor's New Clothes
CD Track 1: An introduction to the story with background music from Handel's Water Music, Allegro Vigoroso
CD Track 2: The Story - The Emperor's New Clothes was written in Denmark by Hans Christian Anderson in 1837. You will hear about an emperor who was very concerned about his clothes. You will hear how this emperor was tricked by two swindlers, and how everyone else was taken in by the trickery and was then afraid to point out something very obvious – that the Emperor had no clothes!
Rumpelstiltskin
CD Track 3: An introduction to the story with background music from Couperin's Musete De Taverni
CD Track 4: The story - Rumpelstiltskin was written in Germany by the Brothers Grimm in 1812.
A miller who wanted to make himself appear more important by telling the king that his daughter could spin straw into gold. A strange little man called Rumpelstiltskin appeared and he was able to make the gold, but at the cost of a terrible bargain the miller’s daughter made with him. You’ll hear how hard it would be for her to escape from such a dreadful promise! Listen carefully to the story and see what the miller’s daughter has to do to pay back Rumpelstiltskin.
Hansel and Gretel
CD Track 5: An introduction to the story with background music from Tchaikovsky's The Lark Song
CD Track 6: The story - Hansel and Gretel was written in Germany by the Brothers Grimm two hundred years ago. Hansel and Gretel were the children of a poor wood cutter. Their father was convinced to take them into to the forest to leave them there alone to die; however, the children were able to find their way home. When the father tried again, Hansel and Gretel were caught by a witch, and held prisoner. You’ll find out how they managed to escape!
The Princess and the Pea

CD Track 8: The story - The Princess and the Pea was written in Denmark by Hans Christian Anderson in 1835.
In this story, you will hear about a prince who traveled the world to find a real princess to be his bride. He knew that a real princess would be very sensitive. The prince’s mother, the Queen knew how to find out if a girl was really a princess, and you will hear what she did when a young girl came to the castle and claimed to be a princess.
The Nightingale

CD Track 10: The story - The Nightingale was written in Denmark by Hans Christian Anderson in 1844.
You will hear about an emperor in China who heard that one of the most beautiful sounds in all of China was the song of the nightingale. This nightingale made a big impact on the emperor’s life. Although he was very rich, the emperor came to understand the significance of nature, and how much more valuable is natural beauty than all the expensive possessions he owned.
