Cinderella
CD Track 1: An introduction to the story with background music from Chopin's Grande Valse Brilliante
CD Track 2: The story - Cinderella was written in France by Charles Perrault in 1697. You will hear about a young girl – “Cinderella”, her wicked stepmother and her two ugly step-sisters. They called her Cinderella because she was forced to sleep on the hearth rug among the cinders. You will also hear about a fairy godmother with magical powers. You will hear how Cinderella suffered and how her life was miserable until her fairy godmother arrived and with a flick of her magic wand, changed everything.
Puss in Boots
CD Track 3: An introduction to the story with background music from Beethoven's Turkish March
CD Track 4: The story - Puss in Boots was written in France by Charles Perrault in the seventeenth century. You will hear about a cat that used his wits and a bit of trickery to help his master attain great wealth. When the young man’s father died, he was left with nothing but this cat. The cat promised his master great riches in return for only a bag and a pair of boots. That is why he was given the name “Puss in Boots”. The cat was very clever and was able to trick all sorts of people into going along with his schemes. You will be surprised at how successful he was in getting his way!
Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs
CD Track 5: An introduction to the story with background music from Glinka's Valse Fantasie
CD Track 6: The story - Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs was written in Germany by the Brothers Grimm in 1812.
You will hear about a young princess, Snow White, and her evil stepmother who became queen after Snow White’s mother died. Her stepmother, the new queen, was so vain that she could not bear the thought that anyone could be more beautiful than she. You will hear the evil queen ask her talking mirror: “Mirror, Mirror, on the wall, who’s the fairest of them all?” You will hear about seven dwarfs in the forest and how they protected Snow White from the evil queen’s attempts to kill her.
Thumbelina
CD Track 7: An introduction to the story with background music from Chopin's Piano Concerto Number One, Third Movement
CD Track 8: The story - Thumbelina was written in Denmark by Hans Christian Anderson in 1835. You will hear about a tiny little girl who was named Thumbelina because she was no bigger than your thumb. Thumbelina was a beautiful girl, and soon she had attracted other small creatures, first a frog, then a mole, who wanted to marry her. Poor Thumbelina, she did not welcome their marriage proposals! Luckily for her, other animals helped her escape from what would have certainly been a very unhappy life.
